| Include address Thu, 7 Aug 2008 12:09:14 -0500 KEITH and SUSAN CLARK WATERLOO --- We read with interest the story "Petting zoo, arts cafe hidden gems of area" in the July 30 "Insider." After re-reading the piece, we still have no idea where the petting zoo is located and when it is open. Even after living here five years, we have noticed a number of times that the paper mentions a place by name, but fails to give an address. We get the impression that the attitude in the Cedar Valley is, "If you have to ask where it is, you're not from around here and we don't want you there." Please help raise awareness that to be perceived as a welcoming community it cannot be assumed that location information is common knowledge. Details, such as an address and operating hours, are essential information and signs of hospitality. |

| The truth about gas prices Thu, 7 Aug 2008 12:09:14 -0500 DAVID THOMAS WATERLOO --- Rising gas prices have created a real hardship for most Americans. John McCain has been running campaign ads suggesting Barack Obama is somehow responsible for this problem. There are two main reasons for the high gas prices. The massive deficits created by Bush's irresponsible fiscal policies have severely weakened the U.S. dollar. This has affected other commodities too such as silver and gold, not just oil. Doesn't anyone remember what gas prices were like when Clinton created record budget surpluses? The other reason is a lack of regulation of commodity exchanges has allowed speculators to drive up prices. Some people are driving less which have made speculators nervous and so the price has dropped some. |
