| Flood victims losing patience Thu, 31 Jul 2008 12:05:54 -0500 PAUL KUECKER TRIPOLI --- As I write this, it has been 46 days and counting since the record flood of 2008. Although I was not directly affected by the flood, my mother and several friends were personally affected by this disaster, not to mention many complete strangers. The then record flood of 1999 has given officials nine years to implement some kind of plan to lessen the damage that occurs during floods. It will be a matter of time before another major flood hits this area again. Once again, there will be no answers, no new ideas, no suggestions. The public just wants answers. As this depressed economy has put a pinch on everyone's budget, the victims could use some financial aid. Yet, the government tells them "take a number, when and if we get to you, we will see what we can do, until then, be patient." People are losing their patience. Our leaders have spent trillions of dollars and thousands of lives in an unpopular war. We send aid to other countries when a natural disaster strikes them. All the time tax-paying American citizens must wait. Is it any wonder most of the American public does not have faith or trust in the city, state and Federal government? |
