| Tony Thompson for sheriff Fri, 27 Jun 2008 12:01:36 -0500 DOLLY LIND WATERLOO --- Everyone I talk to knows who Black Hawk County sheriff candidate Tony Thompson is. But I don't think many realize all the efforts Tony Thompson has initiated to secure and protect Black Hawk County. I don't think people realize Tony is not just a figurehead of the sheriff's office, but is truly one of its "work horses." You see, I've known Tony for quite awhile now, and I know some things that others don't about his commitment to law enforcement. I know Tony became a Military Police officer for the U.S. Army in 1989. I know he served in Panama, the first Gulf War and in Bosnia. I know Tony went to Officer Candidate School to become a commissioned officer, but declined his commission when he took over a platoon in Bosnia as a platoon sergeant, because he loved the work and responsibility for the lives of his soldiers. I know Tony has initiated programs here in Black Hawk County, which the rest of the state and nation have taken note of and are also implementing. Programs like anhydrous ammonia tank locks to stop methamphetamine production, free cellular phones for Black Hawk County senior citizens, completely writing, testing and fielding a new, more responsive drug education curriculum, and I could just keep going. |
