ROBERTS SIDNEY — As a long-time hockey fan who watched greats like Gordie Howe and Terry Sawchuck (at 17 years old) play their rookie seasons with the Omaha Knights, I want to tell all of you what a fantastic series your Black Hawks provided. From my seat at the Mid-America Center, the Omaha Lancers and the Waterloo Black Hawks played the finest, most exciting hockey there could be. And while their ear-splitting bells hurt my ears, your fans were the best we encountered. You are fortunate to be getting so many players back next year. But I’m not sure I should say good luck! |
| Illegal immigration, take 2 Mon, 9 Jun 2008 12:08:08 -0500 TAD BEAN CEDAR FALLS --- I was glad to see Kamyar Enshayan's original letter to the editor regarding the raid in Postville. It was a good look into the human element of the events. It was sad to see the negative responses he got from other Courier readers, and his subsequent apology. I can understand tax-paying citizen's anger towards illegal immigrants working in the United States and some of the money going to their families in other countries. It would be nice to see the same outrage towards the no-bid contractors in Iraq-Halliburton, et al. Imagine an army of federally-funded "illegals" occupying your country, being paid handsomely, working with no legal accountability, then taking the money back to their home country. One might call this "illegal immigration" on a grand scale. Remember that the taxes we pay are the source of income for the war profiteers and let's not criticize at home while we pay for a far worse crime in the middle east. |

| Kudos to McClellan Mon, 9 Jun 2008 12:08:10 -0500 ROBERT L. LEMKE GLADBROOK --- I think that former presidential press secretary, Scott McClellan, should be congratulated for speaking out against the Bush Administration. If anyone would know about the lies and deceptions of George W. Bush and his cronies, it would be Bush's press secretary. Rightwing critics of McClellan say that if he is telling the truth he should have spoken out while he was press secretary. At that time, though, McClellan's loyalty to the president kept him from speaking out. Finally McClellan's conscience caught up with him and he finally did speak out, through his book. Scott McClellan is now suffering the wrath of the rightwing extremists who think of George W. Bush as a god. He has shown, though, that there are still some Republicans who have integrity. |
